Turtles’ Nest Villa – Comfy Luxury in South Coast Jamaica

The rugged yet pristine untouched nature of Jamaica’s south coast has always held a captivating beauty to me. Treasure Beach in St. Elizabeth is probably one of its most charming towns. Tucked in a secluded corner of Treasure Beach is Turtles’ Nest Villa – an idyllic haven with the most amazing beach views. 

I was invited to experience the villa with some of my gal pals as a midweek getaway. We spent our mini-vacay in idyllic privacy. Inside Turtles’ Nest Villa

The Villa has a spacious yet minimalist decor, with a comfy luxury vibe. Turtles’ Nest is a 3-bedroom villa that opens up to a saltwater pool and a thatched roof gazebo that leads you straight to the Caribbean Sea. I enjoyed taking my morning tea to the deck while listening to the waves and breathing in the fresh sea breeze.

Turtles’ Nest Villa does well to play up its gorgeous view. From every room, you’re granted an enticing view of the south coast beach and saltwater pool. The ground floor of the villa has a bamboo beachy living room, spacious kitchen and dining area, a cool terrace, and a bedroom that opens up to the pool.

Upstairs houses the other 2 bedrooms, separated by a breezy bamboo thatched roof balcony overlooking the Caribbean Sea. The balcony is brightly adorned, has ample breeze and the sound of rolling waves in the background brings immediate relaxation.

Each bedroom at the villa comes with its own bathroom which adds to the privacy factor. All rooms are equipped with:

• Air conditioning
• Ceiling fan 
• Bottles of shampoo, conditioner (somehow there was no soap or shower gel)
• Overhead rain shower + Handheld shower head
• Sizeable closet with hangers
• Bedside lamp and alarm clock

Also on property is a smaller cottage annex with the same minimalist beachy vibe as the main house.

Check-in is at 3pm and check-out at 11am every day.

COVID19 Protocols at Turtles’ Nest

The Villa does a wonderful job of remaining COVID19 compliant from arrival to departure. Upon entry, the staff greets us with masks and our temperatures are taken. Next, we complete a questionnaire that assesses our risk and exposure to the COVID19 coronavirus. Masks are required when staff is present, however, it’s at our discretion when we are alone with our group. One interesting thing is that health officials came to inspect the Villa on our last day. I was impressed that the Jamaican government and Turtles’ Nest Villa were keen on maintaining my safety during our stay.

How to Get to Turtles’ Nest Villa

Whether you’re coming from Kingston or Montego Bay, expect about a 3 hour drive to get to the villa. If you’re taking the Knutsford Express Coach then you can arrange to be picked up from the Gutters Station by the Turtles’ Nest staff. 

Things to Do at Turtles’ Nest Villa

You might be wondering why the name Turtles’ Nest? Well that’s because of the turtle sanctuary that’s attached to the villa. Every year sea turtles come to lay their eggs and the baby turtles are guided safely back to the sea when they hatch. 

Treasure Beach Turtle Sanctuary

The most active period for turtle nesting in Jaamica is from June-November. However, according to the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) sea turtles nest year-round in Jamaica. Treasure Beach is the 2nd largest sea turtle nesting area in Jamaica, and only endangered hawksbill sea turtles are there. With the guidance of the staff at Turtles’ Nest Villa, you might be able to watch young hawksbill turtles make their way to the sea.

Go dolphin watching and Lunch at Pelican Bar

A simple boat ride from the Villa to Pelican Bar in the middle of the Caribbean Sea is the best way to have lunch! On your way back, check with your fisherman for where you can watch for dolphins…they know all the local spots for dolphin pods and hangouts.

Lounge by the deck and by the sea

It’s a no brainer. The breezy gazebo deck on the seafront is the perfect way to enjoy the beach. Oh! and before I forget…

Take a swim with the friendly dogs 

There are 2 friendly dogs on property who love to swim! As soon as one of us heads to the beach, they excitedly run along with us for a dip. It’s hard to ignore these friendly companions on the beach.

Enjoy a Secluded Beachfront Getaway

The view is great but one of the best things about Turtles’ Nest Villa is the comfortable privacy you get during your stay. You and your loved ones will feel like you have the beach all to yourself. Yes it’s that private. One caveat is that beaches on the Jamaican South Coast tend to be a bit rough and are probably better for surfing that swimming. But there is a cove nearby for swimming.

Cost to Stay at Turtles’ Nest Villa

The 3-bedroom luxury villa costs US$400 per night, and it’s great for private parties, girls trip #squadgoals, or for a family that wants a getaway.  The smaller cottage annex, on the other hand, starts from US$50 per night. There’s no reason you can’t treat yourself to a bit of luxury.

Final thoughts on My Stay

Turtles’ Nest Villa is perfect for a staycation or a weekend getaway when privacy, relaxation, and minimalist living is all you need. The eco-conscious town of Treasure Beach also allows lots of activities like farm-to-table dinners, walking tours, book exchanges, and one of the largest literary festivals in the Caribbean.
